The Sockless Sock Bun

Here we go. A tutorial. It's not unique, but when I wear my hair like this, I get so many compliments. It's very much "Jamie style." Little effort and yet attempting to be modern. A variety of messy buns are in. Just not the kind you wore in 7th grade. (Fortunately, I never mastered that look.) All over pintrest, campus, and facebook you can see the "sock bun." I have tried the sock bun and it it just too temperamental for my taste. Also, I like all of my socks, and don't like to keep cutting them up when I lose the one I already cut. Not to mention my arms always feel like they are going to fall off by the time I'm done styling my hair. It's almost as much effort as "doing" my hair. This is not "doing" my hair. This is "I-don't-want-to-wash-my-hair-but-can't-leave-it-down" kind of hair style. It works best if you have texture in your hair, whether your hair is naturally curly or you curled it yesterday, this will work. Mine does not hold if I straightened it the day before, just as a heads up. Try to deal with the poor quality, insufficient lighting, and awkward angles of the photos. It's my first go and I don't have a fancy-shmancy camera. Even if I did, I don't think I would know how to use it properly. Shout out to Juline for taking most of the pictures. One more thing, I don't think any of these pictures reflect my real hair color. And now, without further ado...
I like the bun on almost the top of my head, so flip your head over and tie a high-high ponytail. Baha, the first picture looks like some kind of wild animal, and in the second it looks as if my head and shoulders are just floatin.
Next, fan out your hair 360° like so. There just aren't words to describe the picture on the write. It's like a nest of tarantula's.
Then, take the ends of your hair and wrap it around the ponytail. My hair is quite thick so I can't say I appreciate how difficult this can be with thinner hair. Take a second hair tie and wrap it around, once and twice.
(Ignore my nails. I'm so embarrassed at how terrible they look! I lady I think either isn't wearing polish, or she is wearing polish with no chips. Always.) Now pull from the middle of the bun out. This will make your bun bigger, which is always better. And you can shape it how you like.
Fix what you need to with bobby pins, hair spray to hold in place, and TA-DA! The Sockless Sock Bun! Simple and hip.

Not My Cup of Tea

Wow. I just spent about 2 hours today trying to arrange the header. What was I thinking doing a style blog. Style: can't say that I'm "stylish" but I suppose I have my own style. Blog: I can do less with technology than my 9-year-old niece. I can't even design a header with the help of in a semi-reasonable amount of time. But, I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. Pixlr is pretty awesome. For someone like myself with a point and shoot camera, and not enough interest to spend money on a program like Photoshop (I think it might be too difficult for me anyway), it's an easy way to edit photos and create collages. They have different editing options depending on your skill level and needs. I believe I'll be using that website in the future. Okay, lame I know. I style blog and I still don't have pictures. A blog and still no pictures. Nobody even "reads" blogs. Pictures are really the best part about them. Next week will definitely will have some pictures. Last thing: I've heard it before "that is so cute, but I could never pull it off" but guess what, YOU ARE WRONG! I once heard a quote, attributed to Jennifer Lopez (not someone I love, but it's sufficient) that really made me change what I thought about myself and what I liked to wear. "It's not about how you look in a bikini, it's how you feel in a bikini." Cheesy, I know. Now, don't believe that I am not prejudice, I am. I'm usually very judgmental when I see girls in bikinis (one of the reasons I choose not to wear them). But, I do believe a little confidence in yourself and in your tastes can go a long way. A very long way. You can wear almost anything you want to wear, you just have to tell yourself that you can. With that said, you should be aware of what looks best on you and how to hide or accentuation different features of your body. Well, I've used up all my energies on that motivational bit, and am headed to bed.

Here it is...

I'd like my first post to be something spectacular, something that others will see and say "hey, I want to read this girl's blog" Unfortunately,I don't have any of my pictures with me at present seeing how I'm sitting in the James E. Talmage building on BYU's campus using a laptop in the statistics lab. I enjoyed my statistics class that I took... 2 years ago maybe? Anyhow, it's really a lab for Juline's major and we kind of stick together... a lot. Plus, it's a smaller setting with not so many people. And the people here are so different from myself it makes me feel like I'm branching out or something. They are all math minded people. Their brains are just wired differently. And their social processes are too. Okay, I don't know that for sure, but I can guess as much, based on their interactions with one another and the stereotypes that go with the major "mathematics" or "statistics." That is, mostly everyone except Juline. Alright, maybe Juline isn't excluded in these generalizations. She just described (with a fist pump) an equation as "very exciting!" I swear I'm not as shallow as I sound. I can understand the excitement of solving a problem be it statistics or fitting all the dirty dishes in the dishwasher. So satisfying. My first idea about this blog was to be a style blog. My style on everything, from clothing to home appliances. I live the life as a college student and as such can't begin to afford my own good taste, so I thought I'd display it on a blog instead. That was a good idea, until I got a pinterest account. That was pretty much my idea, except I would be the only one with good taste, sharing it with the rest of mankind and then I would have this super cool blog that everyone talked about like "The Day Book" or (my personal favorite) "Classy Girls Wear Pearls". Darn. Now that kind of recognition is a dead dream. Alright, next week I'll start with all the style...stuff (for lack of a better word.)
